Consciousness: Games and Apps.

Go back to: General discussion

Hi Peers and Participants in this class on evolving consciousness,

Looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow. Of course, we haven't set up a class time. I found out today that if I send you an email via "broadcast" that you may not be able to answer it. However, if you post on the forum, ostensibly we will be able to get the emails and answer them.

So,
1. Please let me know what time zone you are in,
2. And if you are willing to share the introductory blurb you wrote about "the evolution of consciousness" (or a game or a bibliography) with your colleagues. If you are, in fact, you could try cutting and pasting it here.
3. I am anticipating starting the class tomorrow by Skype or Tokbox at 10 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time, with followup on the etherpad..or on this forum... as we are learning about these things it will be good to keep our "learning curves" open.

I am looking forward to meeting you!

Best wishes

Miriam Corneli

1. Pacific Standard Time (GMT -7)
2. I thought of a game the other evening:
Goal: Spread Positivity
The game screen starts in color. As the player walks around, or looks at scenes, certain other 'non-player characters' (NPCs) are emitting greyscale vibrations. The player must cheer these other characters up so that they emit vibrant color (more vibrant than the default scene coloration.)

As the player continues to explore s/he encounters additional objects including TVs and newspaper stands that are draining the surrounding color from people. Certain angry NPCs emit 'redscale' hues while extremely sad NPCs might emit 'bluescale' hues.

The player has several tools by default:
* Smile
* Wink
* Poem
* Joke
* Hug

Throughout the game the player can acquire new tools/techniques such as:
* Universal TV Remote
* Dance
* Flower

I think that this game can help people to be more conscientious of our surroundings and to be more sensitive to emotional vibrations.

3. I prefer using the Chat link on the course page and this forum. I don't have flash installed.

Hi Brylie, This is great. How cool is this. I think this is very awesome. Tell me more about the "Universal TV Remote." I want to know what that would look like! So, this thing sounds a lot like "emotional intelligence" would really increase.
Looking forward to hearing more about/from you!

Best wishes

I think that the Universal Remote would be used to switch the frequencies that the device is emitting.

Hello, thanks for the game post. funny, I have just wrote a book called the power of positivity I wouild like to see a game that prompts you to ask questions that expand your consciousness, like what else is possible?

I have been working on a game about consciousnes business.

What would the game interface look like? How would it pose question prompts? What are some example questions?

I would love to generate a list of questions about this "change your perspective" or "what else is possible" or like Byron Katie "How do I know that thought is true" -- Have you read the book Happy for No Reason" or seen Marci Shimoff's work? Or the Applied Neuroscience Institute?

Hi!

I'm GMT! (So 10am MDT = 4pm here, right?)

I'm happy to have my application shared, but I'm afraid I did not save it :)

I would love to participate - who do I need to talk to on Skype since this doesn't appear to have been arranged?

Hi there
Uff. I did not set up the Skype ID properly, and I am thinking of going to group conference calling, it's a little easier to manage and would like to do that for introductions, but will get back to you.. I have your application info under "admin" and I can find out how to "broadcast" it to the group. Meanwhile, hope you are doing well.... it's about 10:15 here now ...

Hi everyone! I really like Brylie's game. One of the reasons I took this class was to get into a context where my own creativity and my own positive vibe would grow!

I'm also in MDT, and I'll stay logged in, in case something "happens" at 10:00. This is my first P2PU class, so the only communications tool I've experienced so far is this forum!

I created a blog entry for my application. Here's the link:
http://bethdaviesstofka.wordpress.com/2010/09/14/the-evolution-of-consci...

I would love to read the others! :-)

Hi all, wondering if you can "read me" on this ... sorry about the delay, am still wandering around in cyberspace.. I guess our first meeting is not as co-synchronous as I had envisioned it to be. Do we have others on the line, as it were?

Hi from Brazil!

1. I'm at UTC/GMT -3 hours

2. Spread Positivity sounds great, and reminds me of this year's ImagineCup GameDesign winner, WildFire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZo52vpSjF8). There, you must convince and orient citizens on working towards the 8 UN Milleniun Development Goals.

2.2. As a starter, I posted the bibliography for my graduation work, Kino - a game to address education and proprioception, much like a RPG without the 'roleplay' - because you must play as yourself. You can find it in Scribd
http://www.scribd.com/doc/23492638/Kino
;)

3. This is too my first P2PU course, and I guess I missed the Skype talk - I guess 10MDT is 7am here.

I'm really happy to be discussing so much good stuff!

Lita.

Hi Lita

Nice to meet you here!

I want to learn more about the Kino game you developed, but the Scribd is in Spanish, do you have some info about Kino in English?

Thank you!

Hello everyone, I am Gurmit in Geneva and here is my short essay below, great to meet all of you and read your wonderful creative ideas!

What does the evolution of consciousness entail for me?

While the evolution of consciousness encompasses far too many perspectives for a coherent yet flexible framework, my experiences and insights as a learning technology researcher prompt me to develop a conceptual model to realize this purpose. This should, at the very least, entail and catalyse the ongoing reflection dialogues necessary for positive mindset and behaviour change effects to be sustained as conscious evolutionary action research processes in a global learning community. In addition, we may consider if it should entail a deliberate strategy of raising consciousness using games and apps in distributed networks, so as to improve the impact of educational technology innovations.

At the same time however, we face the equal challenge of shifting attention and resources towards creating fresh curricula and materials to promote literacy in cosmic consciousness. Currently, the absence of ‘consciousness literacy’ precludes the ability of humans to participate in building the Global Brain as a hive of permanent evolution and not merely a static repository of codified knowledge. As the industrial education system collapses, the question then becomes how do we effectively seed and propagate the evolution of consciousness cheaply and pervasively? How do we make the Networked Digital World evolve consciously?

I hope this course will develop a systematic approach to the evolution of consciousness, by mapping targets, stakeholders, themes, and design principles. My added value would be my experience having developed an e-mentoring programme as
as a pedagogic strategy, building on research that informal and social learning is now a recognized way to improve educational outcomes for all. I would like to develop an app called i-Mentor for promoting peer2peer mentoring dialogues by overcoming time and distance barriers to raising the consciousness of our planet.

Thanks!

Let's think about what a "consciousness literacy" program would look like, or consist of...

what would you like to see?

I'm interested in the Institute of Noetic Sciences educational project. They are working with children, but I don't know a lot about their curriculum.

The other point I keep thinking about is the Institute of HeartMath. Have you heard of them? They are quite interesting and have been doing some nice research, but their main focus is to promote techniques for creating coherent brainwaves in the heart, which then entrain the brainwaves (not the other way around).

let me know what other components you would consider most important! maybe we can make a list collectively . . .

HI people, I'm also from Brazi

1: I'm in GMT -4 time zone or AST for Caracas, Manaus and the City I live Porto Velho. Now we are in 11:31 when i wrote this.

2: The stuff i wrote as sign-up activity:

When I first remember of games or apps that enhance the evolution of consciousness, I remember the fiction movie “The Lawnmower Man” that start's with a chimp seeing the world as some kind of First Person Shooter. In the movie, the mind evolves by exposure to a virtual reality. Out of the fiction, the change is not so simple. Also, that's no a matter of IQ, but of awareness. Our consciousness experience some changes by playing computer games, but most of people are not aware of that. When I dream for the first time that I was driving a car controlled by four directional joystick buttons only, I find it curious. But the dream was more vivid, lucid. Then I read in a game forum someone that had a very real dream, where he feels as he was playing GTA, and talk with gamers friends and find some related experiences. I realize a computer games was changing the consciousness someone had in a dream, the perception of self inside a dream. But in a way the person don't connect the change to the game practice. Today, I think Geo-location based games could change consciousness by tapping into people spatial perception of the world and of themselves. A game of search and find someone or virtual objects with sound clues of the places they currently are, could lead to more awareness of your space, and then, more consciousness of who you are in that space.

3: There is a list of skype contacts to add?

Hi, all!

Isn't it a busy forum! As I was struggling at work, I kept receiving emails with updates - finally, I can focus on what I really want to discuss about with you guys.

Gurmit, that's almost-Spanish, it's Portuguese. And I'm sorry I haven't come up with an English version yet.

Still, here's the story: Kino is a game where you play as yourself in a world that leaves you room for travelling through different subjects and skills; it is almost a gamelike curriculum. One of the core objectives and studies was towards the 'learning process' in a way that takes mind, body and environment into account. So, you're a student that, to wander about the map (and through the 'master-houses' - teachers, so to speak) you had to *really* wander. Want to go to the Mathematician House? Sure. It's three 'spaces' away and he (the math teach) is also a Kung Fu master, and he'll be sure that your body will learn something worth those three spaces marked on the course map. The masters would always have to have some sort of extra-skill that involves body work: an Arts master that is also good at cooking, a History master that is excellent at planting herbs. Something that would always take the student up and out the chair and classroom to learn with her whole being, instead of (a part of) her head.
All had to take place in a game: a space and a time with its own rules, a voluntary agreement to follow the rules, where the rules are: take your chances, don't be shy to have a body and to learn with it, etc, etc.

Uff. Sorry if it is too tiring; it needs to be refined and put to work in small bits. I'm posting some of the references in the Course Material; would any of you have thoughts on this?

Thank you!

I'm sorry I was offline for as long as I was! It looks as though today is an excellent day to catch up on this past week's activities, and get prepped for next week. I'll log in every 2-3 days going forward. :-)

Hi everyone,

1 - I am Joan from Barcelona, Catalunya, Spain GTM +2:00.

2 - Evolution of consciousness implies to me that the "amount" of consciousness, I got so far, that I am able to experience now is just a tiny subset of all what it is. However big enough for making me grow the next step that flows in a big evolutionary path which from my current perspective is not infinite but vast enough to keep me experiencing for a long while.

Evolution of human being connects to it by the mechanisms we find to organize our self ,in the pursuit of any purpose, faster and more efficiently. The invention of the language was pretty amazing, the emergence of Internet is stills shocking and the apps are being developed all around seem to be a fantastic way of materialize the next step of this unstoppable evolutionary path.

Bibliography I would recommend is a book I recently read, My big TOE from Thomas Campbell.

http://www.amazon.com/My-Big-TOE-Complete-Trilogy/dp/0972509461/ref=pd_s...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxECb7zcQhQ - First video out of 18 from a presentation of the book.

With the games and apps I am so not knowing how to contribute so far, even if I am a computer scientist and I have been playing games since I am a child. As far as I can go now is that there is almost always an evolution of the characters when they feel that there is a meaning in what they are doing, then intuition start to be leading them.
