Where Do We Go From Here?

Go back to: General discussion

We had a power outage yesterday just as I sat down to check in on class!  I always welcome power outages.  They make me feel less driven, like I can just grab a book and go to the coffee shop, without being bothered by all the things I "should" be doing.  :-)

Checking in just now, I can't see what our next steps might be.  Anyone know?

:-)

Hi Beth -- there should be some new material under
"Course Material" any moment now. Also, check your inbox for some more "Tasks" and commentary!!

And I like the power outage analogy.. sometimes maybe we need to build those into the system! (like a game where "power outages" could come up at random and you could choose to relax, or get all stressed out, for various points or reward systems)

I have never played any first person shooter games, and the only other computer video game I ever played was Super Mario Brothers, about 20 years ago. I didn't think Mario was all that interested, but it did get my competitive juices going. I'm also not particularly interested in World of Warcraft, which is the most popular MMORPG, or Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (or pretty much something like that). However, two years ago I started using the Second Life island purchased by the community college where I teach. We created a game there based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead (more about that under separate cover). We also hosted two different Comic-cons in Second Life. This is the long way around to tell you that Second Life has rolling and unannounced power outages. We had one in the middle of our first Comic-Con. It was interesting to see how people reacted. Nearly everyone just waited calmly and rejoined the festivities once power was restored -- and they were all new to Second Life! Since no one got stressed out, I guess I'd have to say that points would have been kind of meaningless. Well, there wasn't anything competitive about the gathering.
