Want to create a course with P2PU? The P2PU Course Designer's Orientation is the best place to start!

Summary

The Orientation is always running. Sign-up to join the conversations!

The P2PU Course Organizers' Orientation aims to introduce new organizers to the practice of online facilitation for open social groups and to provide support while they build a new course.

The wiki.p2pu.org/Course-Design-Handbook is a community driven resource and our primary reference during the orientation. Each week we will hold a meeting with experts in the field or Q&A's with previous course organizers.

SEMINARS

Most aspects of course design will be discussed in the forums. Some community members will offer seminars regarding elements of course design (see syllabus below). Because of various timezones, not all seminars will suit everyone's needs. Don't worry, seminar notes will be shared back in the forums!

If you are enthusiastic OSQA systems, you may also take questions to the larger community on qa.p2pu.org.

Learning objectives

The goal of the orientation is to let P2PU future course facilitators ...

  • experience open social learning (like a P2PU course) first-hand to know what it feels like for participants in your course.
  • develop the ability to differentiate P2PU from formal online teaching
  • become acquainted with the different features of the P2PU website
  • design their own course on a topic of their choice and upload their session content to the website
  • experience the use of different synchronous/asynchronous platforms and how to use them in their own sessions
  • provide review and feedback for each other to revise and refine the syllabi for their P2PU sessions

Hi Olufemi,

As far as possible we'll try to accomodate everyone's needs, but it's always going to be a balancing act to meet everyones perfect times.

A lot of the work can be done asynchronously so you'll be able to work at a time that suits you.

Thanks for stopping by and registering your interest.

Cheers,

Jamie.

Hi,
I´m Paulo and found out about P2PU today. It sounds like an interesting concept and I want to understand...
1. If it is taken seriously by the people in charge of it and its contributors.

2. What can the tool do. What features are there available for online content development / delivery. Can I upload videos, presentations and have voice + video + desktop sharing sessions with other people? Can I create and run assessments with the tool. Is this tool an online LMS with content delivery capabilities?

Looking forward to sharing experiences with all of you.
Rgds, Paulo.

Welcome Paulo!

We're currently working on a new platform at new.p2pu.org and definitely working away from standard LMS models. Definitely have a look.

The current site (this one/p2pu.org) has some of the qualities of an LMS but is essentialy the basic minimum that a group would need to learn together. A lot of screen sharing activities can be done offsite with other tools.

There's a pretty comprehensive list in the course design handbook: http://wiki.p2pu.org/w/page/27905271/Course-Design-Handbook

Welcome! The P2PU platform is in its first few years of operation on Earth (an early stage Class C open learning planet). Consequently, learning content on-platform is largely limited to web and email sharing of rudimentary rich text content (underline, bold, italic, font selection etc) and hyperlinks to off-platform content, resources and services. Although on-platform hyperlinks do expose substantially more advanced content expected of a Class C open learning planet, the lack of platform integration is a substantial impediment to collaborative learning. Efforts by some P2PU users to embed off-platform web content [http://p2pu.org/webcraft/node/27443/document] into the P2PU platform has met noticable resistance and low development prioritization.
