Hi Karen!!
I'm following the course and reading the material!! It's my first experience in marketing so I'm learning a lot! My business project is for the moment just a project... I hope that after the course it will become a real business. I read every week the week page but I haven't had time to read all the chapters recomended from the quirkemarketing book.
For the chat: the time you suggest is almost impossible for me... (in Spain, we are sleeping at this time). The time you suggested last week on Saturday was good for me, but not every saturday because I use to work some Saturdays. I will read the chats I can't assist!!

Thanks!!

Cris

Thanks for the thoughts, Cris. I've been encouraging some of the Europe/Asia group to suggest another chat time, but haven't heard anything. Scheduling things like this is always hard! I'm glad you're enjoying the course, though. I am as well.

Thanks for the feedback! I've been thinking about a new way to do a P2PU class that isn't on such a rigid pace. See http://goo.gl/Qlfcg. Any thoughts?

Karen,

School of One in New York is implementing something along the lines of your proposed idea by using metrics and statistics to track student progress and customize lesson plans for each student according to the pace of learning, accomplishment and understanding of the subject matter. It is true that not everyone can follow at the same pace but a class needs datelines to help keep people moving forward towards a learning goal. An idea in this regards could create a class with two tracks one faster and another slower and teaming up people from the faster track with those on the slower track for team assignments.

On the other hand, some of the assignments carry a lot of work and I have noted everyone here works hard and puts their best effort forward. Maybe breaking down assignments into smaller steps may help those who fall behind and feel overwhelmed.

Team assignments could be another idea worth exploring since it would bring people together to cooperate closer online.

Enclosed find some of the Information I retrieved from the SChool of One website for your reference.

Overview

The mission of School of One is to provide students with personalized, effective, and dynamic classroom instruction so that teachers have more time to focus on the quality of their instruction.

To achieve this mission, School of One re-imagines the traditional classroom model. Instead of one teacher and 25-30 students in a classroom, each student participates in multiple instructional modalities, including a combination of teacher-led instruction, one-on-one tutoring, independent learning, and work with virtual tutors.

To organize this type of learning, each student receives a unique daily schedule based on his or her academic strengths and needs. As a result, students within the same school or even the same classroom can receive profoundly different instruction as each student’s schedule is tailored to the skills they need and the ways they best learn. Teachers acquire data about student achievement each day and then adapt their live instructional lessons accordingly.

By leveraging technology to play a more essential role in planning instruction, teachers have more time to focus on doing what they do best - delivering quality instruction and insuring that all students learn.

Thanks for your thoughts. (I have followed the School of One with interest.) With regards to team assignments, Manikk has suggested this as well. I'm not sure exactly how this would work in this course, and frankly my own experiences with team projects has not always been the best (my shortcomings, I'm sure).

I would like to ask if you, Manikk, and others in the class who are interested might want to suggest a team project(s) for the remainder of the class, recruit a small group, and then try it out. Anyone interested?

Hi Karen,
Honestly I underestimated the workload associated with the course. I also feel amazed when another week is over, time just seems to be flying. I am working through the material and reading all of the information. As a beginner to marketing it has been a steep learning curve but a valuable one.
Thank you for supporting us through this and your flexibility. Thank you also to the others in the class with lots of experience your knowledge and ideas are valuable.
Regards,
Karen Plumbe

I completely understand. And it is very useful to hear from you and know that you are reading along and working through it...and especially finding value it in. One of the hard things about online learning is that there is not always this kind of feedback so it is hard to know how things are going for people.

I too appreciate the experience and participation of everyone here!

Regarding the course, we can use a mail group such as google group for communications. That will be more effective than the forums I think.

Also we can circulate daily readings which is small rather than weekly readings. That could be more easy for us to be in the line and update.

More over, people should make themselves available for personal chats through skype/google/yahoo for other peoples to communicate apart from the weekly course.

Schedule voice chats, which will be more interactive.

I would strongly recommend, splitting into team and make team assignments, rather than individual assignments. And teams should communicate within themselves.I have gone through all the introductions on the week1, still I can't get to know people.

Open education is not only open content. Its about open people and their relationships.

This will not only lead to good learning, but also to ever lasting relationships and even can blossom into business tie ups. People should know each other.

We can create twitter, facebook and other available social network communities to push up the communication between us.

These days I have wait for catching people apart from the forum.

Again I strongly recommend splitting people into several teams and make the people active. Make teams come up with a name or identity and select their co-ordinator, people can have their own portals etc., People can take team members real time products/services and promote them. Even we can have small competitions between the teams.

Please extend the course duration and if possible we can start over from where we missed :)

Several people have expressed an interest in webinar tools such as Elluminate, Adobe Connect, Big Blue Button, TalkShoe, (both as a communication tool for this course as well as for our own marketing/commuication uses).

If you use one of these tools and would be interesting in setting up a session for the class on one of them, please reply here or send me a message so we can set a time. Thanks!

(Thanks also for all of your ideas and feedback on the course structure. Keep them coming!)

Incredible breakthroughs take place through simple, open and honest conversation. The physicist David Bohm researched the lives of Einstein and his colleagues—Heisenberg, Pauli and Bohr—and discovered that they spent years openly bouncing ideas off each other. They exchanged concepts without trying to change the others' minds and without bitter argument. They felt free to propose whatever idea they conceived, establishing an extraordinary professional fellowship. This risk-free collaboration led to breakthroughs and discoveries that later became the foundations of modern physics. Einstein and his colleagues illustrate the staggering potential of collaborative thinking. The notion that open and honest collaboration allows thinking to grow as a collective phenomenon can be traced back to Socrates and other philosophers in ancient Greece (Michalko,M.2008).

Team assignments can be as simple as drafting a mission statement together and putting it into a memo to crafting the business plan. The nature of today's business is global and learning to work, collaborate and deal with people from different cultures for a common purpose would be invaluable.

Please feel free to form teams for any assignments you like. That's what peer learning is all about!

Also, this course will remain in existence after we officially conclude. So if you want to regroup your own schedule and continue at your own pace or whatever, that's fine. Do what makes sense to you. :)

On this Tues., March 1 at 8:00pm EST (New York, UTC -5), we'll try doing a multimedia webinar using BigBlueButton.

*** THERE WILL BE A LINK FOR THIS POSTED IN THE CHAT 15 MINUTES OR SO BEFOREHAND. ***

(If you have a webcam and/or headset mic, have if available. Be aware of feedback issues and try to have headphones if possible.)

I'll try sharing some of the new social media tools I've been using lately. If anyone else would like to share something as well, please do!

Hope to see you then.

I will not be on the chat this Tues. March 8, but please go ahead without me, either on text chat or Skype or some other tool. I'll be back on chat the week after that. You can also suggest other chat times if you like.

This class has really gotten my brain thinking Karen! It's created even more clarity for me and the realization of what I need to do to move forward in my business, thank you so much! (I hope to get back involved soon, but I've been crazy busy!)
Is this forum still going to remain available after the class is closed? If not, can we form a yahoo group or linkin group or something to stay in touch and to find out how everyone is doing?
