the times they are a changing...in japan

Go back to: General discussion

I live in Tokyo and was watching prime minister Kan's press conference on the upper house election
results and two things really stand out:

1) TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System -  private japanese broadcaster) is showing tweets (most likely filtered) while the pm is speaking

2) one of the people who asked a question identified himself from Nico Nico Douga (youtube like site)

Although these things may seem small, I think they definitely point to
a change in the way the Japanese media, government (read politicians)
and Japanese society overall is slowly, but surely, recognizing and
accepting the role of the internet as not "new" media or "alternative"
media, but rather Media.

Even after the historical elections last summer when the Democratic Party of Japan took control of th Upper House, the integration between the traditional media outlets and "new" media (放送と通信の融合)was not so present.

I think it would be interesting to see what everyone thought of this. Whether you live in Japan, are Japanese, or have never had any direct interaction w/Japan, I think this is an interesting topic. it would be great to hear from everyone.

Sorry for the late message. I need to keep my mental constitution nice
and warm as I will watch the World cup final in which Spain will
defeat the former owners of New Amsterdam and then go to Joi-san"s
class.

Best,

Janak
