Has this class faded out?

It just doesn't seem like there's much going on, and no new material or task lists posted for last week. Seems we've sputtered out, eh?

I hate to just disappear, so I'll check back towards the end of next week to see if anything happened here.

If we consider what is the tool and what wields it, one would say that the brain is the tool that consciousness uses to manifest itself in the world. Our brains are wired to the physical, we enter the world with our brain plugged into it, and while we can use certain scientific measures to see how the brain works, as to understanding how consciousness works, things get very fuzzy. We do not have measurements we can take that will tell us much about consciousness, it is so removed from physicality and our current understandings of scientific principles. It is so much greater than that.

For me, this is too large a question. I'd prefer that the guidelines for conduct be posted in advance, and we can just agree to them, or not. (And if not, obviously leave the class.)

Since I'm always the one to give offense, and never the one to take offense, I would hope that if someone takes offense at anything I say or do, they would simply tell me, and do it publicly. That's far preferable to a) saying nothing and burning up; and b) sniping or etc. And I promise to do the same.

Where Do We Go From Here?

We had a power outage yesterday just as I sat down to check in on class! I always welcome power outages. They make me feel less driven, like I can just grab a book and go to the coffee shop, without being bothered by all the things I "should" be doing. :-)

Checking in just now, I can't see what our next steps might be. Anyone know?

September 15th Discussion Ideas

So first off, the agenda for today would be to look over (or create?) a "social contract" so we're all operating under the same general rubric of how to interact in the most optimal way... I have some information on this, but mostly it's under the idea of how to share information with others in a way that is most helpful

Second, I would love it if we can introduce ourselves, and since I haven't set up Skype properly (I had to take my mom to the hospital yesterday and it has thrown off my schedule rather a lot) let us see if we can to that in text format

Looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow. Of course, we haven't set up a class time. I found out today that if I send you an email via "broadcast" that you may not be able to answer it. However, if you post on the forum, ostensibly we will be able to get the emails and answer them.
