The course about math-rich babies is coming to an end. It was an interesting experience for me, and I would like to thank everybody who participated. You can continue using the Google Group and ask.naturalmath.com to ask questions and exchange ideas.

I suggest creating multiple places around your home where you can easily and quickly put up pictures. And then adding lots of math pictures!

It is better to add something new to your picture places at least every day. This brings fresh attention to all the old pictures.

Where to get pictures? One of the best ways is to photograph the child doing something mathematical. For example, here are players of the Math Trek game making an inscribe polygon out of themselves:

I am trying an experiment this week with multiple meeting times and shorter meetings (20 minutes or so). At all of them we will talk about your questions and kid activites, and the new topic I want to introduce: math-rich pictures for babies and young kids, such as fractals.

Can your baby multiply?

Can your baby multiply?!!

Usually kids study multiplication around the age of seven or eight. But multiplication is one of the building blocks of math. This is similar to postponing, let's say, past and future tenses until the kid is seven. After all, they are more complicated than the present tense.

You can help your baby or young child multiply. Take pictures or write stories to the group when you do. It takes two simple steps to start.

This is a topic I would like to discuss. Anyone in the course can open discussion topics. Judging by the most young kid resources, as well as questions people submitted, we are in dire need of expanding our math repertoire beyond counting. Let's face it, counting just isn't all that interesting or complex. When a baby or a young kid is learning about all the animals, and stories, and planets, and games in the world, mathematics you offer needs to be at least as engaging.
