Hi all. We'll mostly use the Google Group for discussions, but because this kind of message where I want everyone to respond would generate a lot of noise, I'm going to use the P2PU forums.

I think it'd be great for everyone to give a short introduction of himself or herself to the group.

Regarding JRuby

Just curious, as I'm new to Ruby in general, but what is the difference between JRuby and the standard Ruby interpreter? I know the primary difference is that JRuby runs inside the Java Virtual Machinem while standard Ruby is written in C. I'm just wondering whether there's a specific difference that made it required for the course over the standard Ruby distribution.

Hey guys,

I noticed a bunch of questions about using git over on the signup thread, so I thought I'd share something that was really helpful to me in getting up and running with git and github.

Git Immersion is a great visual walkthrough for setting up and using Git, and I strongly recommend that you guys take a look at it. Playing around with commits, branching, etc. was invaluable, and knowing git is definitely a necessity for coding with Ruby/RoR

I know we haven't started learning yet and this topic doesn't really apply directly to Ruby on Rails but more to programming / development in general. I look at quite a bit of code on a day to day basis whether it's something i'm messing with at work trying to write a utility to help me be more productive or something i'm hacking together (literally, i'm just learning) at home I think the font that you pick is important.
