Hi!

We ended up only a few of us active in the course, but with 8 wikis installed correctly and I think many interesting questions from all of us here in this forum. What's your opinion? Help to improve this for next scenarios, if you can...

If you're still interested in the semantic part of all this, we're probably going to be active in that conversation some more days, so just show up at the right thread :)

Like I said in the Week 3 forum, I don't know how to shorten/prettify the URL. Maybe I can get a little help?

My host is iPage (quick and easy installation but low bandwidth).

What is root access?
How do "ensure I am using Apache and have root access"? - My control panel lists the server as Debian...
I don't see httpd.conf anywhere in my FileManager...
What is .htaccess?
Is .htaccess located within httpd.conf?

For academic purposes, some years ago I managed to install and customize one of my firsts MediaWiki installations, which I still use it as a personal wlog (wiki+blog), ToDo list manager and writing tool. Let's open a parallel thread here more connected to ideas, needs, doubts about how do you want or need your MediaWiki to be.

Jeff for example pointed to the need of a personal documentation tool (which I thing is a good use, I have one for the same), while others of you have already a group of people that may benefit from it.

Apart from being collaboratively edited, what else? Do you need to share visual stuff? Maybe having restricted pages? Tools for project management?

Well, let's see who opens fire here now! Jese and Jim have already installed their MediaWikis, anyone else? The first exercise here is simple: just add a comment in this thread with (a) your wiki URL (or configuration script *) and (b) stating any problem or doubt during the process.

The plan for this second week, before we get our hands dirty installing and customizing MediaWiki, is focusing in the tool itself and its many powerful features.

So let's now consider what are its most important parts and pages, related to editing (for the vast majority of users) and also for getting useful information as admins.
