Sept. 20th, 2010. Today's "treasure hunt" question is about Facebook. When did Facebook start, and how many members does it have today? What kind of "social networking" implications for the expansion of consciousness might one draw from this?

September 20, 2010: How many words are there in Tibetan and/or Sanskrit that would mean "Consciousness" in English?

I'm familiar with Sanskrit, but I don't read it. I have friends who do, and might have cheated by asking them, but that wouldn't really get to my question, which is, how helpful is it to us to know the exact answer? There are many words in Sanskrit for consciousness, but that's because Hinduism, and subsequently Buddhism, supported sprawling intellectual and philosophical schools for millennia! Right?

One of the advantages of the English language is its relative imprecision, but it's also a devastating obstacle to the non-native speaker. We have one word -- consciousness -- and multiple connotations!

I'm very, very interested to

I'm very, very interested to read what others might say about the relationship between social networking and the expansion of consciousness! I can't begin to speculate. While I have a pretty decent understanding of the meaning of "social networking," I'm not ready to guess what might be meant by "expansion of consciousness."

On that latter, I could possibly take a stab at what I want it to mean, and I think on this subject, our desires vis-a-vis the "expansion of consciousness" are valid, meaningful, and have a certain level of influence on the manifestation of said expansion.

But I'm not quite ready to articulate what I mean! Maybe we could come back to this?
