Go back to: General discussion

I must confess - I am absolutely hopeless with forums. So first Ikem, let me say thank-you for starting the first thread and isn't this fantastic - what an interesting community of participants!

I now see how to start a discussion (thank-goodness). But, I do not see how to reply to a discussion and get the html menu which allows me links, embeds and access to source code as I get now when I start a thread. If anybody wants to make a screencast on that for me - I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Hence this new thread. Please continue to introduce yourselves on the old thread...

---- Write here if you are having any problems!
1. Do you need help making a screenshot or screencast and/or posting it on the wiki? Please say so. We can probably set up an EU classtime and an USA classtime for Elluminate.

2. Do you want a class on getting started with GeoGebra? (Or you can go to: http://geogebraithaca.wikispaces.com/Teacher+Workshop+1. There is an Elluminate broadcast there and lots of resources.)

---- Look and leave comments on pages (second tab at the top)
3. Steve Phelps has made a screencast of his finding the largest triangle and posted it on his page. But please don't watch it until you've tried it - it really will ruin all the fun. He used screencast-o-matic, a freebie that now lets you do a PIP (which is picture-in-picture, i.e. a picture of you from your web camera is in the corner of your screencast).

There is no hurry. This is for fun.
1. Do try actually folding a paper circle into an equilateral triangle. That was great fun.
2. Don't try to get your kiddies to prove this! It requires calculus. This is more for exploring and talking and some calculations. We will have a great exercise for proving.
3. What do you notice about the triangle in the circle? How would you do this with your kiddies? Would you do it in class or for homework? (I know each year the kids are different so maybe just how would you start?)
Lots of comments on pages so once you have tried the interactivity, please check out the discussions.
==I have put some of my ideas for exploring the math on my page (http://classroomk12.wikispaces.com/Linda+CSMI)
------------
BTW: Each of us will probably start by doing things they know and through-out the course learn some of the other techniques. That is the idea.

I created a wiki page but I'm not sure how to link to it from your page. Here's the link - http://homeschool-math.wikispaces.com/triangle-in-circle

I don't know how to post anything on the wiki. I'll worry about screen shots after that. Do I need to create a page in my wilispaces account and then link or can I do that on the classroomk12 page? I think I'm trying to accomplish something like Steve did, although not as detailed. Did the math already but the techie stuff has me baffled.

Hiya Tony,
1. See if the screencast in the above reply helps and
2. also there are screencasts here: http://classroomk12.wikispaces.com/Create+Classroom+Wiki
You do need a wikispaces account - follow the first screencast in 2.create..... Then ask to join the classroomk12 wiki as in screencast in 1.
back to you later - am at work. Linda

Hiya - like I said I am hopeless with forums. Apparently I have been sending my replies into the ether (or rather to P2PU HQ) by just replying via email.

Here are my replies to Esther, which might also help you Tony.
3. P.S. Don't worry about doing anything to hurt the wiki. I can fix anything we need. So experiment!! Linda
2. Just in case others also want to make their own wiki – definitely go for it. And for sure ask about how to do anything.
----
I made a short screencast to show how to link a page from your wiki to the class page on the classroomk12 wiki.

Hiya Esther
1. Great wiki site! I think the problem is that you are not a member of the classroomk12 wiki. You want to join anyway so that you can leave comments on other participant pages.
1. To join, go to http://classroomk12.wikispaces.com and near the top it says: join this wiki.
2. Click on that and I will get a message immediately. (This works because you are a member of wikispaces.
3. Once I join you, go to our page: http://classroomk12.wikispaces.com/P2PU+CSMI and you should see EDIT over at the right. Click on it.
4. Then highlight your name and click on the link icon. Click on External link and paste your page URL: http://homeschool-math.wikispaces.com/triangle-in-circle in the blank.
5. Save.
I am going to ask to join your wiki and perhaps the other will want to join too. (You can lock individual pages if you want to protect them, but I haven’t had any trouble so far on any of my wikis…)
Best, Linda
