Opening a course mid-semester?

Go back to: General discussion

Hello Everyone,

This might not be entirely on topic for course design, as it is slightly admin related, so I apologise for that.

I'm currently writing the syllabus for my course, HTML & CSS from the beginning so I can get it out of draft status and ready to open.  When I created the course I simply didn't have enough time to prepare the course for the January start date. However one of the modules that I'm doing on my MA is on Action Research & Reflective practice and I'd quite like to use the course as the focus of my work. To this I'd like to open it up in about two weeks.

I know that we can set the course dates by editing the course, so I was wondering if I decide when to open the course, or if they're strict rules regarding opening dates.

I think it is in the best long term interests for P2PU and the School of WebCraft to have some standardization in terms of identifying and describing courses, start dates and course duration, etc. But within SoW the demand for courses greatly exceeds the supply of organizers and content. So I would say start your course when you are ready and the materials are prepared but set things up so that the course could be redeployed in the standard framework.

Hi Jamie - you can run your course whenever you'd like. We run cycles at P2PU to help organizers design and promote, but you are not bound to it!

That's great news to make a great day even better.

Cheers,

Jamie.
