As the managing editor of Poynter Online, I oversee content on the site, edit articles and blogs, and report on media news and practices. As part of Poynter's initiative to "make sense of the news," I write about the different ways that news travels between traditional news orgs, bloggers and new types of information sources. I also co-edited "Best Newspaper Writing 2008-2009," a collection of ASNE award-winning writing and photojournalism.
Before moving to Florida, I spent about six years in Mobile, Ala., as a reporter for the Press-Register, focusing on local government accountability, from jail management to hurricane preparation and response. After completing a Kiplinger fellowship at OSU, I returned to the Gulf Coast with a Katrina Media fellowship to investigate the role of faulty flood maps in the hurricane's destruction.
I've also worked at the News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C. and the Charleston (W.V.) Daily Mail.
