DESIGN ELEMENTS

Go back to: General discussion

I noticed that some people (myself included) would like to create their own web design.  However, many of you don't feel that you are artistic enough to create your own images/graphics.

An easy and free way to make a design is with dingbat fonts.  Many of you already have at least one of these installed (Webdings or Symbol).  There are many more designs and fonts that will fit your aesthetic. There are designs that are elegant, silly, pretty, harsh, etc.  You cannot use them in a logo but you can use them as elements for buttons, backgrounds, etc. basically as long as you aren't copywriting the design (like a logo) you can use them.  You can look through and download hundreds of dingbat fonts from http://www.dafont.com/  Just type in the search box, 'dingbat' and scroll down.  You'll see about 5 pages of free dingbat fonts you can download in truetype.  I hope this helps and you enjoy.

For anyone who wants to know how to create the 'transparent' browser window over the globe in the final design header, here's a .pdf that I made that you can download. Please feel free to ask me questions. I ONLY work in photoshop, so I can show you the basics on how to do something but for the exact steps in GIMP - you're on your own. =)
