This is my first time taking a course through P2PU and I have my Twitter PLN to thank for introducing me to this opportunity.  I am a high school teacher in Texas and this is my 4th year of teaching.  I teach World History at a school that is innovative and on board with technology in every aspect.  We are a 1:1 school (meaning all my students have laptops).  We have wireless internet in our building and my students regularly access BlackBoard, Twitter, YouTube, Wikipedia, and many other web 2.0 pages.

I am looking forward to learning from everyone involved in this course!  I'm excited to get more into the world of collaborating on lesson plans with teachers beyond my school and subject.  I'm also hoping that what I learn here will help me in motivating teachers at my school to collaborate within our school and in the outside world as well.  I think sharing ideas and brainstorming is fantastic and the best way to make ourselves better educators.

I also pledge that what I post in this course will be my own work and work that I am sharing from others will be with permission and I will give credit where it is due.

My Twitter is CHuckeba. I'm always looking to add to my PLN!

I also keep a basic class blog with the agenda for each day here: http://huckhistory.wordpress.com/

Hi Celaina: I had never heard of the acronym "PLN" before, but it reminds me of the acronym "PLE" (personal learning environment) so I was able to guess that it means "personal learning network". There are LOTS of "learning networks" here in the UK. Is it an equally popular idea in Texas?

BTW, I used to live in Austin where I was previously in grad school studying mathematics... but I became more interested in the rather more specialized topic of "mathematics on computers". In that discipline networks of texts (through cross-references) are particularly important. Not that people are UNimportant. But rather different from math(s) :)

You are correct in that PLN stands for Personal Learning Network. But, no, it does not mean only in Texas. It is anywhere around the world. Any educators that I'm connected too via Twitter fall into the PLN. Some are from Texas, other across the US and others across the world. It is a fantastic way to share ideas and gain new insights into edcuation.

What do you do in the UK?

Celina: The administration at your high school is very visionary. You are very fortunate to be in such an environment. Great having you in this course. Dr. King

The entire district I teach in is 1:1. They are all very visionary. I'm fortunate to work in this district where they encourage us to use technology every day to aid in the learning of our students. Afterall, the world is so connected nowadays with social networks, we might as well use that to our teaching advantage!

Hi Celaina, Glad to hear your excitement/interest about collaborating across departments, schools and globally. That's certainly the goal. I read one of the entries in your class blog and it made me wish my teachers did the same for me in school. Looks like you have some exciting stuff going there and I'm eager to see how that translates into lesson plans.

Thanks also for being the only member to do there plagarism statement on time.
