Different manifestations of trafficking in human beings with a special emphasis on trafficked women and children through real life examples.

Summary

Human trafficking is modern-day slave trading. In fact, the slave trade today is more global and greater than the African slave trade during the 1700's and 1800's. Traffickers use violence, coercion and deception to take people away from their countries and homes. People and children are trafficked between and within countries and are used as manual laborers, factory and agriculture workers, boy soldiers, domestics, and sex slaves.
As Edmund Burke presented the challenge two centuries ago, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good man and women do nothing.”
We will gain knowledge of the issue of trafficking, including its scope, relation to other criminal activities, victims and perpetrators. Examine the “supply side” of the transaction – the women and children who are pushed into service and the “demand side” - the men who rent  them.
Is modern-day slavery something that can be eradicated? Is this an opportunity for our generation to make history? Will we be judged by future generations if we choose to do nothing?

Hello. As a Free Lance

Hello. As a Free Lance Journalist and Photo Journalist, I have seen some very disturbing couples, families, single parents with children, etc.. Labor Day weekend at the ocean, I saw a man with a little girl about 8 years old. Something was not right, and as we came face to face in passing, the little girl was not wearing a top to her 2 piece bathing set.
Last year, as I was out on a Friday night, in Dallas, I passed a man with a little girl of about 4 or 5 years old. When I next saw them, he was taking pics of her in suggestive/seductive poses. He did escape with her, but was tipped off that I was watching and following him.
Thus, I want to know and want to know that what I am seeing, observing, is what I know is not right.

You are absolutely correct

Hello Mr.Marija, you were definately right, it took you with a suprise, perhaps that is not the way people should live in the community, Old people must take little girls as their real daughters, i would call it child trafficking. We need a concrete ways on how to combat the situation as it seems so alarming even in our African societies.

First, we are not 'deciding'

First, we are not 'deciding' how people should live in a community. 2).Neither is this a decision as to whether old people should take little girls as their daughters. The factor that divides into human trafficking is if 'old' people are taking little girls, posing them in society as their daughter, while using them as for sexual gratification and a slave. Those are the factors that separate this, Human Trafficking, from deciding how people should live in a community.

Mr.Mrija, sorry the comment i

To the person who replied

To the person who replied using the word "Old": if the fresh out of high school students, others, are not grounded in behavioral studies or behavioral science, they are just as dangerous to society as those involved with human trafficking. Age is not the success factor. The factor for success is being grounded in behavioral science to know what you see, or being an air head and zealot on a witch hunt, a Barney Fife or trigger happy. More harm than good will be the outcome by someone heady with a mission for sensationalism. Those to be saved will be lost with irreparable harm to the project.

Hi Mary,
You said "Those to be saved will be lost with irreparable harm to the project". Would you mind clarifying the project you are addressing? I feel as though I'm already lost to some sort of priveleged information.

What word would you have

What word would you have preferred to use as non-specific and as a general term for whatever the reason would be that activated your position as noting and or being active to watch for Human Trafficking?

Dear Fellow Students and our Course leader Marija,
A big hello from Paro. I am journalist from India where trafficking especially of women and children is a big issue. Children are usually sold to do bonded labour and women become prostitutes. I just finished reading the Personal Story HT.pdf; How much is a Women, Child Worth to Sex Traffickers.doc . A few preliminary observations: Is trafficking mostly about sex?
Amsterdam is a developed country with help lines and numbers for those in distress to call—why didn’t Sasha call for help?
Sasha’s father raped her and yet she calls him a good man who didn’t mean to do it. Its obvious her self esteem was so broken that could be taken in by anyone showing the remotest bit of kindness. Is this is a characteristic common among most victims?
Her repeated pregnancies: This shows how much sex education and an education that teaches respect and responsibility to our bodies is necessary. India sex education is still taboo. I wonder how much this lack of knowledge contributes towards trafficking.
I would like more information about The Protection Project. How do they put a victim at ease?
Thank you,
Paro
