Music Theory 1 - Mar 2010

Each week there will be a one hour discussion that will be open to questions.  A reading assignment will be given each week to help prepare for the following weeks discussion.  All readings will be accessible via the internet.

Week 1:
The basics; clefs, notes, intervals, major and minor scales, circle of 5ths, rhythm

Week 2:
Building blocks; scale degrees, triads, inversions, figured bass

Week 3:
Leaving the house; chord progressions, modulations

Week 4:
FOUR!!; Chorals, four part writing, voice leading, ornaments, harmonizing bass lines

Week 5:
In Motion; Consonance and dissonance, 1^st species counterpoint, cantus firmus, discuss final projects

Week 6:
Present final projects
