recruiting participants!

Go back to: General discussion

I noticed that one of the courses I'm organizing has several applicants already, and the other still has zero.

I guess one thing to do is to recruit people who are already participating in P2PU, and I admit I've been a tad slow getting the word out in my own channels... anyway, if anyone has cool ideas for promoting courses please share :)

There is a tweet button on the course home page you could use (next to the "Short description" text). Blogging and social media sites are other options. Also, if you google for the text "p2pu" and exclude the domain p2pu.org (-site:p2pu.org) you will get insight as to where p2pu is being mentioned.

Since it's math focused, you might try some math forums? Example: http://www.freemathhelp.com/forum/. Maybe some popular math tweeters can help spread the word too (example: http://twitter.com/griddlers/math-education)

I've tweeted my course and put up on FB. If you put on Twitter, you might try including the tags #mathchat #gamedesign etc. That will get it out to a larger audience. Listservs are also a great idea.

Good ideas. Another thought for *next time* would be to have short peer-reviews for courses up on the front page at p2pu.org. That would help visitors find awesome things they didn't expect to find, and that would generate word of mouth (even if they weren't interested in the course, they might know someone who is).

Well, I wonder if I should just cancel the "Short Calculus" course. Still no sign-ups! It's a bit hard to fathom why, but maybe I should cancel it for this round and just focus on the other one. Anyone want to give it/me a critique before a press the delete button? (Actually, I'd rather archive it than delete it, if that's possible, and I think it is.)

Joe, there are two people in comments who wanted to take it. I went and commented that they should press the button, but maybe you can reach out to them directly. I am also sending info to several dozen LinkedIn, Yahoo, Google groups and so on. Let's see what happens. Don't cancel it till the next week!

Previously we've also been using the P2PU blog and other tools to bring the word out about courses that did not get the attention they deserve. Right now our problem is that we don't have an easy way of seeing the number of applicants per course, so it's hard to get a quick feeling of which courses could benefit from a bit more attention.

If you are still struggling with few applicants, contact me privately, and I can help you put a message on the official P2PU blog.
