Did you complete the course? (What does that actually mean)?

Go back to: General discussion

Hello Everyone:

This was clearly not a typical P2PU course. I was absent for much of it. Greg mostly organized one of the weeks, but then couldn't join the call during hiw week either. People posted fascinating ideas, but in a somewhat random and disconnected fashion. We floated in and out of conversations.

Which makes the question, "did you complete the course," a little hard to answer. But since we (at P2PU) are trying to get better at collecting learner data, including drop-out rates, I'd love to get your personal answers to the question:

Did you complete the course - and what does that mean?

Here is my own short answer: I feel I completed the course, because it helped me better understand the open governance challenges we were facing at P2PU and showed me ways to address them. That's exactly what I wanted to get out of the course. Trying to turn my loose thoughts into blog posts, helped me think through the issues more rigorously, and reading everyone else's ideas helped me identify areas I hadn't considered. I felt well prepared for the P2PU community meeting in November, where we discussed governance and agreed on a radically open model for the next year. I couldn't have hoped for a better outcome - and I appreciate it's efficiency and design even more, after reading and hearing about the bureaucracy that often gets introduced in open communities. No bureaucracy at P2PU.

Anyway, would love to hear other peoples' thoughts on this. Heather and I ran into each other in Barcelona and toyed with the idea of letting this course carry on. Going back to topics we feel we haven't covered sufficiently yet - and adding more topics as we go along. I would be up for that if enough people are interested.
