Dan is an electrical and computer engineer located in Ann Arbor Michigan and holds a BSEE degree from the University of Michigan along with MSEE and MBA degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dan has been using billions and billions of FireFox Add-ons for longer than he can remember.
This course has been rescheduled for the April session.
FireFox Add-ons are an incredible resource for web developers as they instrument the FireFox web browser with an enormous number to powerful tools and conveniences that greatly speed up development and increase productivity.
Each week participants will present and discuss a set of FireFox Add-ons that your fellow WebCraft developers use according to the schedule and categories presented below. Other than the organizer setting up the initial schedule, categories and the FireFox Add-ons presented in the first week, this course will be entirely driven by the participants.
Here is the schedule and the six categories of FireFox Add-ons:
Week 1 - Multipurpose
Add-ons: Web Developer, FireBug and FireBug Extensions, GreaseMonkey, JetPack (maybe)
Week 2 - Evaluation
Topics: Validators, Performance, Compliance, Accessibility, Profiling, Testing, Ranking, Cross Browser
Week 3 - Presentation
Topics: CSS, Theming, Font, Color, Image, Style
Week 4 - Source Code
Topics: Formatters, Deminifiers, Lint, Debuggers
Week 5 - Network / Security
Topics: HTTP, DNS, Speed Testers, Whois, IP Lookup, GeoLocation, Headers
Week 6 - Data
Topics: Scraping and Extraction, FTP, Download Managers, Cookies, Storage, Cryptology
Participants will share and learn what FireFox Add-ons their fellow WebCrafter developers are using by presenting thier favorite Add-ons and exchanging their tips, tricks, feedback and use cases.
There are no prerequisites for this course other than having access to the FireFox browser and an interest to learn and share how you are using FireFox Add-ons for web development.
Please note: The sign-up task is listed here as background information. Please only submit your answers via the sign-up form (not as comments or direct messages to the course organizer).
To get the ball rolling, during the first week of the course we will explore the capabilities of three extremely popular FireFox Add-ons: (1) Web Developer, (2) FireBug and FireBug Extensions, and (3) GreaseMonkey. In subsequent weeks we will look at other FireFox Add-ons that course participants submit and present.
Here is the list of the current 1,276 Web Development FireFox Add-ons:

I'd love to take this course,
I'd love to take this course, but unfortunately, I've just started using the Firefox 4.0 beta, and two of the three prerequisite add-ons aren't yet supported. Web Developer seems to have been updated already, but not Firebug nor Greasemonkey (I have the first two installed, and have used Greasemonkey in the past).
I'm very interested in the whole WebCraft thing, and support web standards in general, so I'll stay tuned for more developments.
Have you tried other means to
Have you tried other means to get them working? Or are you just going by what's listed on addons.mozilla? For Firebug, you may be able to use v1.7 beta (production is 1.6). And, the same for GM. You may be able to use a nightly build. And, FF4 is supposed to be released next month so I'm sure it won't be long until they are officially supported. But, I haven't tried any add-ons with FF4 yet, so good luck.

This may be an option to run multiple FireFox versions:

I have not explored this myself so explore at will.
If you install Add-on
If you install Add-on Compatibility Reporter [1] you should be able to run most of them.

No worries. I got the latest version from the Firebug website and it works fine.

Could use some help, I was accepted in the class but don't see a syllabus, the syllabus link doesn't open anything, and I've not received any info about the first meeting which is supposed to be tomorrow. With my job I travel and I need to make sure to time things so I'm in a cafe with wifi in time for the class if needed. Can anyone help? Dan?
The starting syllabus is
The starting syllabus is basically on the course web page. I have compiled all the FireFox Addons that people have submitted and organized them into one of the six categories. Tomorrow I will post this list as a more fleshed out syllabus but even this is likely to change as people contribute new Addons.
More information will be forthcoming tomorrow but you will not need to attend to specific hours as we will largely be using a discussion group for the majority of communications and you can catch up and contribute as you are available.
