I live in London. Am a professional programmer but not in map-ish area. I have done some work with google maps, but want to try other map platforms.
Tried openlayers but got overwhelmed so some help in find wood from trees would be a good idea.

I live near Fredericton, NB, Canada. I have been working in GIS since 1997. Have not done much programming since university but I have dabbled with the Google Maps API. I am currently managing an ESRI ArcGIS Server installation called GeoNB: http://geonb.snb.ca/geonb/
I work in Raleigh, NC. Have been doing one form of GIS or CAD another in state government since 1988. Trying to migrate to using as much FOSS GIS as possible.
Hi. I live in Chicago IL and have a background in business continuity / disaster recovery. I also have some web development experience. Looking forward to learning OpenLayers so that I can contribute to the Ushahidi project.
I am a missionary in Catacamas, Honduras where I teach free computer classes using open source software. I teach everything from introduction to computers to as advanced as my classes desire to go. I taught college level classes before starting here.
I am also involved in several sustainable energy projects for which I have a great need for mapping skills.
I have been interested in mapping for a long time and just this Christmas received a GIS logger (at my request :). Thus I am interested in this class both for the assistance it will give me in my projects and for the knowledge I will be able to impart to others - all to the glory of the One who gave us something to map, Jesus.

Hi everyone, I live in London at the moment and work in the Greenpeace UK digital team. I'm not a professional programmer but have been designing websites for a while now. I've managed to create a couple of maps that pull in data from google spreadsheets, used for the live coverage of campaign actions like this one against BP (http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/files/bp/index.html).That said, I'm sure I'm doing everything wrong, and I'm keen to learn how to work with maps from the bottom up.
I'm also really interested in Ushahidi and how to empower grassroots groups to harness the power of mapping tools.
Hoping to learn a fair amount on this course and also meet, help and get help off the others here.
Cheers!

Hi there! I'm Apostolis from Athens, Greece. I'm undergraduate student of Computer Engineering and Informatics Department at the University of Patras. I have a little experience with Google Maps and Bing. Hoping to gain and share knowledge.
Cheers!
Greetings! I'm Josh, repping for Jamaica. I'm a systems engineer by profession, but I love web design/development and I aim to be come more grounded in the industry. I've used MapServer before to design a mapping prototype tracking dengue outbreaks for our Ministry of Health, but to be honest, the API is very cumbersome. I'm hoping to learn of a simpler open API that can achieve the same effect, but with greater ease.
Looking forward to working with you all.
Regards,
Josh.
Hi there! I am Ben, I live in Ottawa Ontario. I have 1 year intense experience of using ArcGIS Server/Desktop/BA(Online) and various extensions. And some experience with Google Map API. I hope I can get as much as I can in this course. It's going to be fun!
Hi, I'm Rick from Atlanta, GA USA. I'm a freelance web developer that's been struggling to understand JavaScript for quite awhile now. I think that finding places to apply my JS knowledge is part of the problem, and this course seems to provide a good test of what I know by giving me the chance to apply it. I'd love to build a travel website incorporating something like OpenLayers.
From reading some of the intros here, it looks like I'm behind the group in terms of using any kind of GIS/mapping software. Hope I'm not in over my head, but looking forward to finding out this week.
Hi, my name is Sherrie. I have a technical support background and did some programming years ago. This will be new for me.
Hi everyone, my name is Jaime. I live in Mexico City, I am an interaction designer and have been working on web design and web development for the past 5 years. Looking to learn everything I can about GIS and mapping and this looks like a good place to start. Looking forward to learning and helping out in the web design and development part as much as I can.
Hi Everyone,
I'm Moe Farag, I'm an Egyptian Engineering student. I've been working as a freelancer for the past 2+ years and have been practicing programming for more than 5 years! My specialty is in VBA coding for Excel and Access, Database design & implementation and developing standalone applications using VB.NET. I really enjoy programming things :).... I want to step forward with web development, I've packed the courses and books but never started :D so I thought sticking to a course would give the push. I have experience with maps, remote sensing and a bit of GIS due to helping my parents with their work!
It's a great honor to get to work and know all of you and I hope we could form an effective study group under the guidance of our course organizer.
Looking forward to the beginning of the course.
Regards,
Moe
P.s: sorry for the late reply, I just finished my finals today :)
Hi, I used to program a lot, but haven't for quite a while. I am very much interested in maps and locational representation, and am taking this course because I want to play with maps and get back into programming a little bit more.
Hello. My name is Anita and I live in a very small town in Ontario, Canada. Most of what I know is self taught. I work remotely from home allowing me to clear my head by taking walks with my dog and cat. I enjoy learning new things. Ruby & rails mostly, web development stuff.
Hello
I'm very interested in software development and have all the books to prove it!:) looking forward to this course on creating maps as there are quite a few uses that online maps can be applied to
Hi, my name is Aravind and am from India. Like some people here, I learned web design on my own. I have recently partnered with two people to start a web development firm.
P2pu is great place for me to learn in a group and am looking forward for this class.
Hi, I'm outside of Boston. I'm pretty flexible about times, but weekday afternoons would certainly be the best. :-)
I don't currently do much programming, but I used to do quite a bit of web development (HTML, CSS, JS, SQL, C#). No experience with maps ... yet.
Hi, I'm David, I'm in Vitoria-Gasteiz the capital city of the Basque Country, in the north part of Spain. I'm currently doing some GIS stuff, and this seems to be a good place to learn a bit more.
I'm basically a developer, no matter if it's web or desktop. I'm able to develope in Java, C#, Visual Basic, VB.NET, PHP, ASP, ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript, a bit of CSS. I've got some experience in GIS area.

I'm Sean and my time is split between Sacramento CA and Boston MA. My programming experience is mostly backend-related (J2EE) but I'm working on some non-profit projects that could use some nice map-based visualizations. I've contributed a little to OSM.
I'm Maria and a journalist in Colorado Springs, CO. I've done mapping with ArcView and QGIS but really am hoping to learn how to apply that to Google Map API's so my maps will look better and be more user-friendly.
Hello. I'm Mita from Windsor (Ont, Canada) and I'm a librarian interested in supporting community mapping projects. I've recently been playing around with OSM and Ushahiti/Crowdmap and I'm working on improving my scripting language skills so I can create my own mashups.
Hi, I'm David from San Francisco. The company I work for provides a platform for city-citizen communication and allows citizens to report issues to their city through their web browser and mobile applications. Understanding and being fluent in GIS and mapping is critical for me but right now my knowledge is basic--looking to expand it and fast. Some knowledge of MapWindow, ArcGIS Server, none with OpenLayers. Also, just personally very interested in open data initiatives. I have very, very limited programming experience and think I'm a bit out of my league in this class but I'm willing to work hard, expand my mind, and contribute. Looking forward to working with and learning from everyone.
Hy,
I'm Christian from StP Austria. A little City near Vienna.

Hello all... I'm James. I live in San Francisco. I currently freelance in web design and development; mostly small biz sites and non-prof stuff. I am mostly focused on front end technologies so I feel this is a great opportunity for me as I am very interested in mapping technology on the web. I feel mapping will be a very big part of what the mobile internet provides. I too am very interested in all open source projects so this will be an added opportunity to learn about one I know little about. Look forward to learning and contributing here.
Hi folks . I'm Ray from Dallas. My background is in SQL, C# and Javascript. would love to know more about Open layers.
