hey all! i guess i'll give it a go... i'm from toronto originally, and live in washington, DC nowadays. i've done a variety of work in the space community, software development, and open government, from both policy and technical angles. i just started a phd in computer science at university of maryland.

favourite beverage... well, i don;t drink a lot of juices, but when indulging in beverages of the alcoholic variety, i do love me some scotch :D. also, drinks with cucumber in them.

weird hobbies... well normally my "weird hobby" i tell people about is p2pu, so... ;) oh, and starting a big mixed-use community house in DC.

rin, you have to go too! :p

thanks Jessy! - NASA, wow.

I'm 26 y/o, live in Germany (10 ppl flatshare in the ruhr area, just in case you wanna drop by :-D ). I studied Japanese for some years and then changed to computer science.

when I was about 11 taught me some BASIC. since then, I've always been into computers, but somehow I never managed to get a grip on programming - until about a year ago. - there's still a lot to learn, and more important, a lot of practice needed :).

I love green tea, I like to watch and ride trains. and photography.

weird hobbies: no, not really. maybe keeping millipedes as pets does count. …?

Hey,

I figured it would be a good idea to chime in here since I haven't had the chance to post anything or participate since the beginning of the class. I just got done with 2 of the worlds worst college final week(s) ever and now I'm on the rebound from it.

That said; I'm 20 years old and I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota (almost canadia). I'm currently attending the art institutes international minnesota for 'web design and interactive media' which is kind of like a hybrid degree for graphic design and computer science.

I've been playing with programming for shits and giggles since I was 15ish and started doing freelance web development right around the same time. I started in frontend-land (html/css), and moved to PHP-land for a while until I found Ruby and Python.

The thing that keeps me going with programming is finding that one new thing that completely blows your mind or makes you think about everything you're doing in a different way. As long as I'm constantly learning new concepts and ideas I work well. In the next few weeks I'm going to be attempting to learn and make something nifty with erlang.

weird hobby: couch surfing. On saturday I went on an epic one night roadtrip to chicago (got back at 3am last night) and while I was there my group of friends and I did some couch surfing from http://airbnb.com. It was a very cool experience and I definitely see it becoming a new favorite hobby.

favorite beverage: iced raspberry riot lemon mate (http://is.gd/fwf1L) with some actual raspberry lemonade - awesome drink for all year.

What about favorite music? Favorite metal band is called Isis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXMSY9gaA1o), favorite indie band is Arcade Fire (watch this in google chrome: http://www.thewildernessdowntown.com/), and my favorite electronic music is from Tycho (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oNXGykTQ2E).

Hi.

I'm Manuel, 23, I'm from Medellín, Colombia and soon to complete my CS undergrad.
I must say i don't like "business" and "enteprise" software in general, so I'm mostly interested in data-visualization, games and general useless non-profitable creative apps :).

Started doing freelance front-end web development as well as some PHP backend, worked for a very brief time on j2me apps, and now working on a day job with C#. -But I try to keep Evenings are for open source and javascript mostly.-

I like dart frogs: they're tiny, carefully painted and crafted, and also very powerful(read poisonous), pixelart, street storytellers, typography (like most front-end people). I'm also a cinema addict, and a cheesecake executive eater.

As for the beverage, while I don't usually drink the same every day, I tried arabic coffee not long ago, and it definitely got awarded my first place in beverages :).

Hi all,

I am no longer a student but still trying to learn something new every day.

I have been freelancing for two years until I settled down a little when I reached 30 and became the father of the cutest little baby.

I live in Paris but I do not consider myself a Parisian. I am originally from Fontainebleau.

Weird Hobby: I design a method to teach myself Japanese Kanji.
