Update: Check out this very active discussion forum thread for a list of all project ideas.

Participants in the class will work in small groups on individual projects. Project groups will document their progress in various ways (on the class blog, by email, see more detail below).

Examples:

  • Interview a human rights activist and post a video along with a blog post with background about the issue and interviews of people both in the community and in the government.
  • Pick a global topic such as the election in Iran or the American nuclear program and do a global roundup including translations from blogs across the world and interviews with various points of view.
  • Organize a town hall meeting about an issue and live stream it, capturing the real-time discussion and facilitation online conversations leading up to and following up the meeting.
  • Interview a head of state or politician and prepare questions by soliciting questions on a wiki and a blog and follow up with an edited video and post it on YouTube.
  • Organize a panel of experts about broadband and take a podcast, followed up by a website and a mailing list including the panel and other people interested in the topic.
  • Organize a conference or meetup around a technical standard and produce a website for people to network and share information before and after the event, creating a persistent web resource.

Projects from 2008 and 2009 class blog provide an example, but we are expecting much more from the class this year. ;-)
