This course has weekly seminars at KEIO University in Tokyo at the following time. The Tokyo times are fixed - please double-check your local times.

  • Sun 17:00 - 18:30 San Francisco / US West Coast
  • Sun 20:00 - 21:30 New York / US East Coast (EDT)
  • Sun 24:00 - 01:30 UTC/GMT
  • Monday 02:00 - 03:30 Johannesburg
  • Mon 09:00 - 10:30 Tokyo (JST)
  • Mon 10:00 - 11:30 Sydney

The seminars will be live on ustream: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/kmd-p2pu-digital-journalism (If you want to link into video by either Skype Video or H.323 Video, contact Joi or Janak separately to get it set up)

For those unable to join at the time of the seminar, we will arrange recordings of each session and run discussions with some of the presenters to go over the materials later in the week. We will confirm the times once we have a better idea of geographic location of all participants.

The central communication method will be IRC which can be access via an IRC client by going to #p2pu-journalism on irc.freenode.net or going to the web based chat here: http://p2pu.org/node/3838/chat

I was unable to get the UStream working under the following setup: Firefox 3.6.3 with Flash Player 10.0.45.2 running on Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid Lynx with a direct internet connection. Did anyone get the stream running under Linux?

(interestingly, all other live streams from ustream.tv worked fine, only the KMD one didn't)

Very strange. We did have a problem with UStream initially. I had started streaming via a mobile device as a test, but it failed when I tried to switch to the computer. I think that once the mobile stream connection timed out, the streaming started to work from the other computer.

Therefore, for the first few minutes, streaming wasn't working. Did you try reloading once we were well into the seminar?

And no - I haven't tried it on Ubuntu, but I don't know that our stream would be any different from other streams. We're just using a Mac with Firefox and a firewire camera from the website interface...
