Logistics

Go back to: General discussion

Hey Everyone:

As you have noticed we are taking things slowly this first week, mostly focusing on logistics and getting ourselves organized.

* Availability for live chats - I'd like to do a synchronous call next week to discuss logistics of the course, go over the content and expectations, and plan the next weeks. Please indicate your availability in this doodle so we can do it at a time that works for most of us.

* Introductions - Greg, Leigh, and Chris have started posting introductions. Since I got to read all the applications, I know what a fantastic and diverse group this is. For those who haven't had a look at the forum, please post a short intro in the next days so that we can all get to know each other.

All the best from San Francisco!

I think I prefer whenisgood, because it let's you easily select a range of times, rather than having to click on each single hour, but it's all good.

Yes, whenisgood is good. ;-)

Looks like the most promising time slot for our first meeting is Sat 25 Sep at:

8AM (San Francisco)
5PM (Berlin)
0:00 (Tokyo)

I'll leave it open for a few more days in case not everyone has filled it out.

Wondering about the vehicle for live chats?
If it happens to be skype, then we will need to start sharing our user IDs.
Mine is .
Have a great week ahead.
:-)

Hi everyone, Phillip

I just could not check in within last week - apologies for being late, life was just way to busy. My name is Davor, I work as Publication Manager at VideoLectures.NET (http://videolectures.net/), which is essentially a Europe based free and open access educational video lectures web site. A project with an open ideology but strongly rooted non-openness in the sense of clear identity, rules, expectations, etc.

I am a super beginner in the concept of "Open Governance" and pretty much interested in all of it, to paraphrase Leigh, my starting questions are:

- what is exactly the role, appropriateness
of 'governance'?
- where can openness be applied in governance?
- what is a distributed and networked professional?
- etc..

I will set up a blog asap, Sat 25th is ok for me, am I the only European?

Hey Davor: Have a look at the introductions to see if you are the only European. :-)

Hi Davor,
Good to meet you here and know that we are in similar time zones, but I'm in the UK and as we haven't adopted the Euro as our currency, I guess that means I'm not really European (yet) - unlike Philipp Mueller.
Actually, I tend to think of myself as more of a world citizen and agree with Rumi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumi who indicated that:
"Someone who considers nation or religion to be important human conditions, is in danger of severing the heart from is ability to act compassionately."
:-)
Salaams from Oxford,
Chris.
