Conflict Resolution

This will be my first course via p2pu and I am very excited to be included. I am looking forward to the exchange of ideas and working with the group.

William Ury's "The Walk from 'No' to 'Yes'" is truly inspiring. He helps us to realize we can each, just as the members of the tribal conflict he tells about, can take responsibility for assuming the Third Side in 'Conflict'. If there is no one taking that third side, it becomes difficult if not impossible to settle conflicts peacefully and productively. My personal goal is to try to be the one to come up with the extra camel in conflict situations. By starting his talk with the camel story, Mr Ury created a pneumonic I find powerful as an aid to conflict resolution.

In addition, his reference to the Abraham walk made me yearn for the ability to make such a walk. When he went on to tell us about the walks the people are organising in their home locations, I got inspired to try to do that in my home location. It is easy to find groups in conflict. They may not always display that conflict openly, but it is there. That being the case, such a walk, properly organised with groups at conflict represented with good visability, can go a long way toward putting more people in the balcony. In our sojourn here on Earth, when we are able to find a passion for an activity that will leave our environment in a better state than it was before we impacted it, we can feel a sense of accomplishment and self worth. This is what I have taken from Ury's talk. The more people that can take a responsibilty for communal improvement away from this talk, the greater will be his impact for good.

A question on accessbility: Would these videos have English subtitling or closed captioning for the Deaf ?

After watching Ury's video, it confirmed my belief that there is always a diplomatic resolutions to any conflict. While one must be overtly naive, taking a 3 side position will make one see the issues clearly and proffer a new perspective to the stakeholders. The video also shows that mediators also along the line always protect their own interest whether it is economic, religious or social values. It goes to add weight to issues in the Middle East conflict by working along their divided and uniquely different sides to walk the walk of Abraham to unite and bring peace tto the region. Like the wise old woman, bring warring sides round to an amicable settlements that would benefit all parties and them provide values

The balcony perspective has worked after the Word Wars between Germany and allies. As a conflict manager role is be the steer in the boat and direct all efforts to a resolution. Ury made it clear that this is a simple and no easy perspective. I will apply this in my school community and social circles .

In any conflict the major issues are conflict of economic interest. Just watching the way US and China are handling their trade disput shows that negotiations is best in settling conflicts for the general overall

Hi, I'm not sure if there will be a first meeting or something but I'm moving house on 26th January. Which is the course start date, so I might be late in handling my first week assignments if there's any :).
