Hello, I'm Joseph Hardin.  I'm a Visiting Fellow at the University of Queensland, where I'm working with staff of the Center for Educational Innovation and Technology on open scholarship projects.  We will be surveying teaching staff and students at UQ on their beliefs, attitudes and intentions toward things like open access, open courseware, open data and the like.  I'm in the midst of constructing a course on introductory survey research and statistics using these surveys as a case study.  You can get an idea of the surveys by looking at a paper done for the OCWC meeting last February, at  http://tinyurl.com/33896a7   I'm particularly interested in how Australian copyright differs from USA copyright, which I'm more familiar with.  I've recently retired from the University of Michigan.  Looking forward to this course.

Joseph

Hi I'm Robyn Knowles a Teacher librarian at St Aloysius College. I work with staff ans students assisting them in the research and development of assignments and the promotion of a love of reading in our school community. My interest in Copyright is to ensure I can give both staff and students accurate information pertaining to copyright issues as they arise, and to learn more about creative commons and its application in education.

Hi. I’m Mary Lydon. I’m the copyright officer for eLearning, Queensland’s home for online learning. Our website is the Learning Place . We develop online courses and are producing an eCurriculum. Because we need to use third party resources, I have the job of keeping the records. My background is teaching and I was a teacher librarian in a previous incarnation.
Cheers, Mary

Hello, I'm Ken Price.

I work as Principal Education Officer for online services in DoE Tasmania.
I have several reasons for interest in this course.
I teach a class, so I have a personal interest in copyright.
I help manage a large central repository of digital resources at state level, with obvious copyright issues.
My unit deals with teachers developing online courses for their own students and for sharing with others - this sort of use does not easily fit the educational provision for teachers using resources with their class. We are increasingly moving towards open courseware and this has copyright implications for those doing course development.

My background is as a science/maths/computing teacher, though I have undertaken several other roles.

Hi, I'm David Clark.

I am IT Manager at St Patrick's College in Tasmania. We are a Catholic co-ed 7-12 College with approximately 1400 students.

Managing a large computer network requires me to be up to speed with copyright issues relating to digital media. Our College is pushing staff to use resources such as online learning, streaming media and YouTube. Therefore, after completing this course, I am hoping to be able to better advise the College on issues relating to the use of these resources.

For my group (Lime), my Internet access may be a bit hit-and-miss for the next few weeks, so discussions / wikis will work best for me. Hope this suits everyone else in the group.

Hi David I am also in the lime group and have dodgy access to our school email at present so I would also prefer a wiki or google docs, do you already have a wiki? or do we need to set one up?
regards Robyn

Hi. I'm Helen Belfrage. I am Head of Library at St Rita's College in Brisbane - all girls, years 8-12. I enrolled in this course because whenever copyright issues arise everyone assumes that I know all about it, so I thought I better stop pretending. I am in the violet group, use Skype regularly but happy to try anything.

I'm Sue Urban (Gold Group) .... IT Teacher at Wilderness School, in Adelaide SA. I have the great job of teaching K-12 IT and also supporting staff in using IT in their teaching. I have a soapbox issue of teachers generally flauting copyright laws (or is that just being ignorant to) when producing teaching resources and introducing them to the wonderful world of creative commons.

Skype is fine with me..... but I would be doing that from home. I'm southozsue on skype (and twitter / Facebook). Have set it up previously but never used it ... so I guess I'm about to start :-)

Looking forward chatting and discussing with you all.

My name is Matthew Wells (a member of the Aqua Group) and I am the eLearning Coordinator at All Saints Catholic Boys College, a boys 7 - 10 high school in South Western Sydney.

I am interested in this course as I am constantly engaged personally and involved in engaging others in this wonderful online world. I want to be better informed about the world of copyright so that I am better placed to give accurate information to my students and colleagues.

Happy to communicate via whicheber method the group deems fit as I am fairly flexible.

My name is Joan Swanson. I am a Teacher librarian at John Paul College, a Catholic college of about 700 students. I need to be better informed about copyright so that I can pass on accurate information and, as far as possible, make sure that the school and its inhabitants are on the right track in preparing resources and assignments.

Hi, my name is Mahendra. I'm at Lime group.

I'm graduate teacher, completed GradDip in Education (Secondary) at RMIT, and still looking for teaching job in Melbourne. My methods are mathematics, physics and Indonesian.

I am interested in copyright issues because I observed many teachers compiled the books or handouts for students from many textbooks, for example, physics problems or mathematics problems. I want to know better about who owns the copyright of the problem solving books or handouts. Also I found that many teachers use internet resources such as clips and applets, and to be copied into school intranets.

Hi All.

I'm Jason Young (Lime Group), HT Maths/Computing/anything remotely technical! In NSW DET, we now have a large amount of DER laptops running around with YR 9/10 students and I'm constantly being asked to put cd's/textbooks/video clips etc on the network for kids to access by staff. I have a general idea of copyright issues but am hoping this will help clarify my overall understanding. My better half is due to give birth to our first baby within the next two weeks so skype may not be the best option for me at this stage, unless you want to talk at 3am :)

I'm Jason Arruzza of the Aqua Group, Director of ICT at an Independent K-12 coed school in Sydney. I am quite nervous about the time commitment of this course, particularly as I am concurrently also doing a Masters' online now through UNSW. I am open to whatever communication medium suits everyone the best.
Cheers,
JA

Welcome everyone. We still have 2 or so yet to introduce themselves. Hopefully the wiki spaces I set up on wiki.p2pu.org will make it easier for you to work in your groups at times that suit you. You have two weeks for each assignment which should give you enough time to complete the group answer.

Remember you can meant to work with each other. Let each other know if your worklaod for one week is high and your participation might be a bit limited and you will take a more proactive role in the next assignment.

You may wish to put your hand up to do the first draft of certain questions for each assignment. The first assignment is due Friday 8 October

Cheers

Delia

Hi all - sorry I've taken so long to introduce myself. I'm Jessica, the other coordinator of the course with Delia.

I've got about 10 years of experience in copyright. I started out as a policy officer the Federal Government writing copyright law, before moving on to run Creative Commons Australia. Just recently I've moved down to Sydney to advise broadcasters on copyright and media policy.

I'm a major copyright geek - I love it as an area of law, and all the issues it touches on. So if anyone has any questons, or any issues they'd like to discuss, I'm happy to be part of the conversation. I'm particulary interested in open access, online business models and education and libraries copyright.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone over the next few weeks.
