Sorry if I'm jumping the gun with this, but it's been a week so we might as well have something to talk about.
I'm curious about the choice of GITS2 for the course materials, what's the defining factor that singled that movie out? (from the rest of the GITS stuff that is.)
You kind of have to have seen the first movie to get what's going on, and as far as the subject matter goes you could argue it's largely just a repackaging with an extra dose of basset hound. There are also several interesting episodes in the series that cut on variations of the same themes.
What am I missing that sets GITS2 apart?
All the movies in the course (apart of the documentary, Freedom Downtime) are about human replicas and our relation with them; from all the GITS movies I'm for GITS2 for the ghost dubbing thing, as a step in achieving a more human humanoid and in this case for a terrible purpose.
ok, cool. That brings up a new question, but I'll leave it for when the material rolls around in the course.
