Hello, it's a bit quiet here, so I thought I'd kick it off. Thank you to the course tutor for contributing such a playful, creative idea. I love maths (I'm English; we add the "s"!) but am a bit afraid to come back to it. I was competent as a kid, but never really "got" it. To suffer through the stodgy, boring teaching methods at school was probably a reason why, but to hear Stephen Hawking talk about physics, he talks of seeing colours and shapes in his mind's eye... Co-incidence? My hunch is it's not. While I'm not angling for the Nobel Prize for Mathematics just yet, here's hoping a physical and tactile way in will help me connect better and enjoy the subject more.
Hehe - and I've been practicing saying MATH 'cos I thought I'd be the only one here to call it maths. :-)
I'm a home-schooling mum to a 15 year old boy and we're going to be doing this course together. In theory I'm his teacher, but we seem to be swapping roles a bit as he's rapidly progressing to stuff I've never done, and he's already way past the stuff I can remember. Over the years he's used a lot of maths software, like Edmark's Number Heroes and Cosmic Geometry and things like Zoombinis and a maths course involving a green alien called Digit. He also dabbled with making up little visual computer programs using Widget Workshop to help him learn his times tables and uses Studyworks and Microsoft Math to help him with his work as he's progressing. He's getting into things like computer graphics visualisations, game development, electronics and software testing, so I thought this course would be a good way to channel his interests into something a bit more constructive than the inevitable 'Mum, I want to write computer games for a living' scenario.
I've absolutely no clue what I'm doing, but hopefully we'll muddle through it somehow!
Hi all,
I am a maths and ict teacher currently living in Tenerife, Spain, but originally from Norway.
I am grateful to Linda and p2pu for this course!
I am interested in what Linda says in her video introduction, let the students investigate AND pass the exam. :)
My students are 15 to 19 years old and my kids are 3 and 5. I hope this course will be useful for both groups.
I am rather new to GeoGebra (and paper folding) and hope to find the time to learn a lot.
Regards,
Jan
Hello Everyone!
Thanks to Linda for running this course!
I am a high school teacher from Cincinnati, Ohio. I have been a GeoGebra user for some time now. However, I am most interested in Linda's work with wikis and the like, so I am hoping to learn a bit more about that.
Hello!
I am a Math(s) teacher from Cleveland, Ohio. I am interested in exploring ways to help my students explore. I have used paper folding and graphing calculators in my classroom for quite some time. I am new to Geogebra and the idea of mixing the tactile with this interactive technology is extremely intriguing to me. I think this is the way to go. I do not believe I have ever worked with such a diverse community and I am looking forward to it for sure.
