Week 1 - Community Building - Our Guests

Go back to: General discussion

Hello All:

we can benefit from the participation of three guests:

Week 2: Michel Bauwens - founder of the P2PU foundation. You can learn more about him here: http://p2pfoundation.net/Michel_Bauwens

Week 3: Phillip Schmidt - founder of P2PU

Week 6:  Wouter Tebbens - founder of the Free Knowledge Institute (FKI) and the Free Technology Academy (FTA)

These guests are all *stars* in the world of p2p and free knowledge, so we are really happy that they accepted our invitation to contribute to this course.

Synchronous meetings with them would be ideal but perhaps difficult to setup because people are spread across time zones.

An alternative option can be to host an asynchronous meeting space - for one or two days during the specific week - where you  log in at different times, share documents and post comments. This meeting space can be this forum, for example. This tool can do the job because supporting discussion-like activities it is what we need, I guess.

However, it would be a good thing to understand better how we want to "use" :-) our guests.

For example: during week 2 we learn a bit about the difference between governance and government. Perhaps we could discuss the concepts with Michel - I am sure he has tons of things to say about this.

Comments and suggestions are welcome

Hello All,

Michel Bauwens - founder of the P2PU foundation will be our guest in week 2 (which starts on February 2).

How would you like to involve Michel?
An option can be piling up questions, as Dan suggested, in Etherpad and then engaging Michel in synchronous and asynchronous writing.
This could be done throughout the week.

Times for doing some synchronous writing should be arranged, though, and this makes things a bit more complicated, but it can be done. Maybe he can indicate some time slots in which he is available to participate in the etherpad.

Can you please tell us your thoughts about this, so I can email Michel by tomorrow morning at the latest?
Thank you!!

We could invite him to join one of the meetings (either Tuesday's already scheduled one, or his choice of days for the day-time meetings). Also we could invite him to make a "guest" blog post on the blog and discuss in comments there. Whatever he finds most suitable, really!

Agree with the flexi approach. Will think of some questions to ask and post it on Etherpad. Thanks.

How does it sound if we setup another flashmeeting on Monday February 7, at the end of this 2nd week,to invite Michel to talk about issues raised by the questions you all have posed? Let's say a meeting about 2:00PM GMT?
How many of you could attend?

FYI, I made a booking for that time (Monday the 7th, 14:00 GMT) - http://oufm.open.ac.uk/fm/30d8a1-2775 - if there's some major outcry we can reschedule, but let's hope we can just go with this.
