Must say I'm feeling a little out of the "D" loop - perhaps I need a new name to belong to this group... Never the less I will keep going.
I'm a teacher librarian, fairly new to the world of teacher librarianship so I still have much to learn. I teach in an all girls secondary school in Sydney.
Copyright is an area where I feel I need to improve my knowledge as teachers and students constantly ask for advice, particularly with reference to the use of digital media when students are creating their own responses to assignment tasks using Web 2.0 tools. When I came across this course I thought it might help me come to grips with copyright rules, and that by doing this course on line, over an extended time period, the information might actually "sink in"! I've done two copyright PD sessions, but there was so much to cover I left feeling more confused.
I am familiar with Skype and have it set up for use at home. Unfortunately I can't use it at school, so I hope you don't mind collaborating after school hours?
I look forward to hearing from you all over the next week or so.
I work as a graphic designer at Distance Education Tasmania. We have students here from K-10 living all over Tasmania as well as some interstate and overseas travellers. Students attend Distance Ed for a variety of reasons including distance, pregnancy, medical/psychological reasons as well as some partial enrolments from other schools.
I carry out a range of tasks but one of my main ones is producing paper-based and online materials for students. In the process I have to deal with copyright issues and I feel I should know more about it.
I don't generally use Skype here but I can set it up.
Hello again Deb,
Sounds as though you have a very interesting job, not just in terms of the content but also the audience for your work. I'm sure we'll learn lots about copyright together.
If you would prefer to try one of the other communication tools, rather than skype, I'm happy to give them a go.
I've not yet explored the readings or case scenarios but will do so over the next few days.
Nice to see some people in the red space! I flitted in briefly and lurked, but should have left a message.
I work for the NSW Department of Education and Training in Curriculum K-12 Directorate. I have responsibility for managing a team of arts advisors to develop resources and provide professional development for all primary teachers and secondary arts teachers in NSW. I've done quite a bit of work with copyright over a number of years, but things have changed so much, especially in digital environments. I really need to understand copyright at classroom level, at training level and at publishing level, so I'm really looking forward to working with you all on this!
I did have a skype account at one point but may have to set up another one, and I might need your assistance. Happy to use any collaborative tool that everyone feels comfortable with.
I haven't had time to look at what we are meant to be doing, but will get to it on the weekend.
Someone could answer the questions as best they can in Word and email this to the other two. They could add their suggestions and comments to the answers in, say, a different colour and email them back to the first person.
We could then all have a Skype session discussing the answers and formulating the final responses.
The original author would then make the agreed changes and post the assignment.
The following week, another person would do the initial work.
I have some time at the moment and have started to put my answers together so I would be happy to start the process if that sounds like a plan. If you don't like this suggestion, how do you think it might best work?
Great to hear what you do, Deidre. No doubt with that background you deal with copyright issues from a number of perspectives. I imagine you will have some very useful things to offer the group because of that.
I think that sounds like a great idea. I have also started to put together some thoughts but I'm really happy for you to take the running on this first one and I will start us off next week, if that is OK.
Hi all,
Thanks for the suggested plan for week 1. I'm very happy for you to email me at school jpower@loreto.nsw.edu.au or at home jennyandstephen@bigpond.com.au
I check both emails a couple of times a day so will be able to respond. As for our skype conversation I'm in NSW and can only access skype at night. Is there a preferred night and time for when we can meet up?
Hi everyone,
My name is Catherine. I work at the Resource Centre in the Catholic Education Office in Sydney. I am excited to be joining your group. I have read your posts & it looks like you are all well into the first assignment. Your approach to answering the questions sound great. My email is catherine.sanchez@ceosyd.catholic.edu.au
Looking forward to working with you all.
Hi Catherine. Glad you are now part of the group.
I work part time and I won't be able to access my word doc until Friday unless Jenny or Deidhre can pass it on to you earlier.

Donna Faulder has withdrawn from the course
Hi All
Just to let you know that Donna has withdrawn today due to work pressures and unexpected understaffing.
Please proceed with your current group.

A way of working
How about this suggestion for a way of working.
Someone could answer the questions as best they can in Word and email this to the other two. They could add their suggestions and comments to the answers in, say, a different colour and email them back to the first person.

Hi to Deidhre
Great to hear what you do, Deidre. No doubt with that background you deal with copyright issues from a number of perspectives. I imagine you will have some very useful things to offer the group because of that.
Thanks, good suggestion
I think that sounds like a great idea. I have also started to put together some thoughts but I'm really happy for you to take the running on this first one and I will start us off next week, if that is OK.
Adding coloured text in a WORD doc works for me.If we send direct via email, my email is deidhre.wauchop@det.nsw.edu.au
Thanks
